History of the Oxford University Ghana Society
The Oxford University Ghana Society has long served as a space for Ghanaian students at the University of Oxford to connect, celebrate their culture, and support one another. Over the years, members have organised social events, cultural celebrations, and community gatherings that strengthened the bond among Ghanaian students and friends of Ghana across the university.
In 2023, renewed efforts were made to formalise the society’s structure and establish it as an officially recognised student organisation. Under the leadership of Olivia Vashti Ayim, the society began the process of registration, membership coordination, and administrative organisation, while continuing to host events and maintain engagement within the community.
The official registration of the Oxford Ghana Society in 2025 marked an important milestone in its history. It represented the culmination of years of commitment and collective effort to ensure that the society would have a lasting presence at Oxford. Today, the society continues to grow as a platform for cultural exchange, academic collaboration, and mutual support among Ghanaian students and the wider Oxford community.
